41st Culture Week began in Holguín

The 41st Culture Week began Monday in Holguín with a varied program of activities that includes concerts, exhibitions and talks, which will run until January 20.


Dedicated to the 190th anniversary of the birth of Major General Julio Grave de Peralta, to historian Hernel Pérez Concepción and to the director of the Rodrigo Prats Lyric Theater, Liudmila Pérez López, the event will celebrate the 272nd anniversary of the granting the Title of City and Government tenure of the also known as the Cuban city of parks.

The opening parade took place from the House of the Lieutenant Governor to La Periquera Provincial History Museum.
This year’s event includes the first edition of the Colloquium of Holguín Artistic and Literary Criticism at the Lalita Curbelo Cultural Center; and the XXXIV National Meeting on Independence Wars, with the inaugural conference by Dr. Francisca López Civeira.

The City Awards gala will be held in the Raúl Camayd hall of the Eddy Suñol Theater, to award the winners in the categories of Architecture, Radio, Written Press, Social Communication, Music, Literature, Plastic Arts, Television and Video.

The Aldabón de La Periquera, the highest recognition granted by the Government in the municipality to personalities who stand out in various spheres of society, including art, will be conferred on the artistic promoter Ricardo Ronda Chacón and the band conductor Humberto Pino Hernández.

Likewise, on the night of the next 17th, in front of the Cathedral of San Isidoro, will take place the great concert in anticipation of the birthday of the northeastern city which, according to the Royal Decree issued on January 18, 1752, by the Spanish metropolis , the town became into a city in recognition of the commercial and social development achieved.
