Cámara Azul, a space dedicated to cinema within the World Festival of Artistic Youth, continues today with a group dedicated to films made by young filmmakers and a debate on the contributions of Holguín residents to Cuban cinema
This year’s event pays tribute to the 65th anniversary of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (Icaic) and the Cuban cinematographic heritage.
In addition, daily screenings of a varied film program continue on a giant screen located in the Parque San José in the City of Parks, from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. (local time).
Among the film proposals of the day it stands out the documentary 'Romerías, la utopia', by the Holguín director Manuel Alejandro Rodríguez, a graduate of the International Film School of San Antonio de los Baños; the Cuban film Aislados, and a sample of young filmmakers.
They will also launch the call for the 12th Andante Cinema Day in the eastern province of Guantánamo, convened by the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) which brings together the country's young creators.
On the other hand, the panel “Challenge to memory: 65th anniversary of Icaic”, addressed challenges faced by the institution since its creation and those imposed by new contemporary ways of watching and making cinema.
During the exchange, the actress Eslinda Nuñez, the director Manuel Herrera, both national film winners, together with the honorary president of the Romerías de Mayo, Alexis Triana, and the art critic, Luciano Castillo, highlighted their close ties with this important Cuban institution.
Blue Camera: national and international exhibition and competition of different audiovisual genres, was created in 2004 from the audiovisual section of the AHS of the province, due to the scarce presence of the genre within the World Festival of Artistic Youth.
This 2024, the Romerías de Mayo festival celebrates its 30 anniversary and the 65th anniversary of the Casa de las Américas, with an extensive program of activities and artistic events, until Wednesday this week.
