In his opening words, the poet and narrator Juan I. Siam Arias, recalled the way in which the novel came into his hands and shared his experience as a reader: "I found terrible phrases, of authentic pain and of the most natural language. Uncontaminated ", he expressed.

The Cuban artists, of different ages and origins, managed through diverse techniques, to convert fragments of the novel into images, which "some are carefully figurative, others distant from academicism," have been the result of a deep introspection in the work of Arenas and a creative reinterpretation of his literary universe.
