A discussion on art criticism in Cuba distinguished the first day of “A shot in the hole”, an event that runs until next Saturday in the city of Holguín.
Nelson Herrera Ysla, curator and specialist at the Wifredo Lam Contemporary Art Center, exposed this Thursday the lack of practice of the existing genre in the press media and the loss of exercise and study of the subject by the journalistic union.
He referred to the advantages and difficulties that new technologies mean for visual disciplines and explained that this process is defined by periodicity, but also by the knowledge that the expert must have.
Herrera pointed out the development of foreign art in the country with the presentation of “Havana, a laboratory for more than 30 years”, a set of photographs of works exhibited at the Havana Biennial from 1984 to 2019.
For his part, Dr. Jorge Núñez Motes, critic and researcher, explained in his conference “Watercolors, landscapes and visuality in Regino Boti” the work career of the renowned author as an artist, painter and draftsman, showing a variety of works that reach from early ages to the last decade of his life.
“A shot in the hole”, which is held at the Provincial Center of Plastic Arts and the Casa de Iberoamérica, announces the closing of its sixth edition with the exhibition “It is not time for flowers”, by the visual artist Berta Beltrán. (Source: ACN)
