PAHO/WHO delivers fumigation equipment to Holguín

The regional office of the Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization in Cuba (PAHO/WHO) delivered 50 fumigation bazookas to the province of Holguín, with support from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The organization stated on its Facebook page that another 90 bazookas will be distributed to the eastern provinces affected by Hurricane Melissa in October 2025, as part of the prevention and control efforts against the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
The equipment incorporates technology that allows the insecticide to be emulsified with water instead of oil, resulting in more efficient fumigation with less environmental impact, as well as reducing dependence on petroleum-derived fuels.
The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) highlighted that this innovation is relevant given the challenges associated with fuel availability in the country and contributes to strengthening the capacities of the Cuban health system.
The fumigation process in Cuba remains an essential action within the national health control strategy, as it reduces the presence of mosquitoes that transmit diseases such as dengue, Zika, and chikungunya.
This procedure, carried out systematically by specialized brigades, complements hygiene and sanitation measures such as targeted vector control and the elimination of breeding sites, contributing to the preservation of public health and epidemiological safety. (Source: ACN)
