Holguín to host new edition of the Festival “Por Primera Vez”

The seventeenth edition of the National Audiovisual Festival “Por Primera Vez” (For the First Time) will take place from February 19 to 23 in the city of Holguín, with the aim to promote the talent of young Cuban filmmakers, as announced by the organizing committee.
Enrique Betancourt Gutiérrez, specialist at the Provincial Film Center, said that the festival invites filmmakers under 35 years of age to participate in various categories, including fiction, documentary, animation, video clips and video art. In addition, a pitch competition has been established, where participants will be able to concisely present their film projects, which will facilitate financing for the production of the winning project.
More than 20 works from different regions of the country will be exhibited in various venues, such as the Cine Martí, the Casa de Iberoamérica and Las Tres Lucías cafeteria. The program will also include workshops, conferences and debates, which will feature the participation of prominent professionals from the Cuban cinematographic field.
The Faculty of Audiovisual Media Art (FAMCA) of the branch of the University of the Arts (ISA) in Holguín will be integrated into the festival's activities in order to promote exchange between educators, students and artists. Likewise, a representation of the International School of Film and Television will be present to announce its new admission call, while five international students will present their work at the event.
Throughout its 17 editions, the National Audiovisual Festival Por Primera Vez has established itself as a promoter of young Cuban cinema, becoming a vital platform for the dissemination of the seventh art in the eastern region of the country and being considered one of the most relevant cinematographic events in the territory.
