Holguin publishers to present their literary novelties at the FIL

The Holguín publishing houses Ediciones La Luz and Ediciones Holguín revealed most of the literary novelties available for sale at the 33rd edition of the Havana International Book Fair, which takes place here from February 13 to 23.

The Ediciones La Luz catalog includes books of poetry, narrative, essays and literature for young people, organized in collections such as Abrirse las Constelaciones, Analekta, Mehrlicht, Quema Palabras and Premio Celestino. This set presents works by long-time authors such as José Luis Serrano, Nelson Simón and Roberto Méndez, and other young writers such as Malena Salazar, Liset Prego, Armando Ochoa, Iran Capote, Karina Mora, Vanessa Pernía Arias, Náthaly Hernández Chávez, Héctor Leandro Barrios and Katherine Perzant.

One of the great attractions will be the presentation of “Leaves of Grass” by W. Whitman, translated by Manuel García Verdecia, which is part of the Biblioteca del Pueblo collection of the Cuban Book Institute.

On the other hand, ANIMA studios of the ICAIC in Holguín will offer a new episode of the audiovisual series “Retoños de almendro” for children.

In addition, audiobooks such as «¡Mira mi voz! Poemas de Emilio Ballagas interpretados por artistas cubanos» and «Los silencios transparentes. Poesía de Lalita Curbelo en las voces de autores cubanos» (QuemaPalabras Collection) will also be presented in the cultural event.

Among the outstanding audiovisual materials is the documentary "An enormous game with time", which represents the last graphic testimony of the Master of the Plastic Arts Cosme Proenza, made by Alejandra Rodríguez Segura from Holguín.

The series "La Claridad Avanzada", directed by Gerardo Perdomo and Luis Yuseff, which in six chapters collects the memories and testimonies of founders, collaborators and authors who have been part of Ediciones La Luz for more than twenty-five years.

For its part, Ediciones Holguín will present the books awarded with the Adelaida del Mármol Prize, including "Parcela familiar" (2022) by Yunier Riquenez García.

Other titles that Ediciones Holguín will make available to the public are: The Imaginary Reality of Numbers, by Richard Blaya (Ricardo Abreu Blaya); Olympic stories. The other side of gold, by the Uruguayan Matías F. Mateus; and Far from the mizzenmast, by Miguel Ángel Martínez Sarduy.

The Havana International Book Fair is held annually in the Morro-Cabaña Military Historical Park.

In this edition, under Martí's premise "Reading is Growing", it will pay tribute to the 130th Anniversary of the Fall in Combat of the National Hero of Cuba, José Martí and will also celebrate the 25th anniversary of the creation of the Territorial Editions System (SET).

The Republic of South Africa is the Guest Country of Honor and during the fair, Cuban personalities such as Fransisca López Civeira, researcher and professor, and the poet, essayist, researcher and literary critic Virgilio López Lemus will be honored.
