About film direction and the methods to perfect artistic creation through the author's intuition, director Fernando Pérez spoke today during the National Audiovisual Festival “For the First Time” that takes place in Holguín until February 22.
The director of "Clandestinos" exchanged in the lobby of the Cine Martí the experiences of so many years of work and highlighted the importance of believing in one's vision even though it is not included in the established patterns of what audiovisual material should be like.
“Cinema teaches grammatical principles, however, the author will always have to find a way to express himself through language because artistic creation is not mechanical, I intuited many things throughout my career and could never theorize them”, he said.
He also commented that at no time have the lack of materials and organizational difficulties prevented or diminished the possibilities of his films and stressed that it will always be necessary to try different ways of setting a scene.
He also detailed the creative process where the conception of the script, the work with the actors, production and editing constitute fundamental parts and the director has to know how to handle them.
Fernando Pérez is one of the most recognized filmmakers in the country and his films "Clandestinos", "Madagascar" and "Suite Habana" are among the most relevant in Cuban cinema. (Source: ACN)
