Ibero-American Festival Ready to Begin in Holguin

The 25th edition of the Ibero-American Culture Festival will take place from 24 to 30 this month in the city of Holguin with the participation of artists and researchers from 16 countries.
 
More than 160 participants from Haiti, the United States, Peru, Spain, Trinidad and Tobago and other nations will exchange with Cuban creators in conferences, exhibitions, concerts and creative workshops on the identity and culture of the region.

According to Dr.Sc. Eduardo Avila, director of the Ibero-American Center, the current edition has the Caribbean as its central axis, due to the geographical, historical and cultural links that unite the Caribbean islands.

At a press conference, the specialist meant that this annual event is an opportunity to reflect on the Ibero-American idiosyncrasy and the contemporary meaning of what it is called “the encounter between the cultures of the old and new world, with the arrival of Christopher Columbus to the Bariay Bay on October 28, 1492.

He highlighted the Ibero-American Congress of Thought as one of the main spaces of the event, which will be attended by more than 200 delegates from Cuba, the United States, El Salvador, Italy, Costa Rica and Mexico.

Avila added that the traditional Craft Fair, to begin on October 11th, , will be dedicated to the textile demonstration and to the city of Trinidad, which holds the status of Craft City of the World since 2018.

The American blues band Original Chicago Blues All Stars, the Spanish duo Kiko and Sara, the Mexican singer Ivette Rios and the DJ Fei Vega have confirmed their performance at the Festival.

For the Cuban part, it was announced the play Afrodita by the dance company Rosario Cardenas, the joint presentation of the pianist Frank Fernandez with the Codanza group, as well as the performances of Cuban singers Ivette Cepeda and Tania Pantoja.

The Ibero-American Culture Festival was founded in 1993 at the initiative of the then Minister of Culture Armando Hart Davalos, in order to promote the exchange of experiences and solidarity between the nations of the region. / With information from Prensa Latina
