Holguín protects vulnerable population against COVID-19

With the realization of more than a thousand daily active researches in social institutions, the health system in the province of Holguín contributes to the protection of vulnerable populations, in the face of the rise in confirmed autochthonous cases amid the outbreak of COVID-19 in Cuba.
 
This measure aims at the timely detection of patients with respiratory symptoms, who are immediately isolated, according to the protocols established by the health authorities, with the aim of containing any outbreak of the disease, with more than 24 thousand cases diagnosed in the Caribbean island.

The Psychopedagogical Medical Center, the Maternal Home, the Elderly Home, homes for children without family protection, social protection entities and the psychiatric hospital are among the institutions included, said to the Cuban News Agency Alcides Lazo, head of the surveillance department of the Provincial Directorate of Public Health.

He informed that in the eastern territory there are also restrictions on the entry of relatives and other personnel to these institutions, as well as strict compliance with the established disinfection regulations, as part of the measures to contain the new coronavirus.

Holguín also increased the control in primary health care of bedridden patients, pregnant women, people with severe disabilities, the elderly alone or with high blood pressure, bronchial asthma and diabetes mellitus, among others vulnerable to SarsCoV-2.

Since the beginning of the new normal phase, the territory has accumulated 462 confirmed cases of COVID-19, of which 314 are autochthonous and 148 imported, for an incidence rate of 30. 7 per 100,000 inhabitants and 287 recovered patients of the disease and more than two million deaths globally.
