Eastern Cuban province involved in the certification of its beaches

Photo: Carlos RafaelSix spas of the Holguín tourist destination expect to be granted the Environmental Beach Certification, in accordance with Resolution 305 of 2020, of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, which grants that status to coastlines for tourist use, with the objective to contribute to improving the management of these areas and directing them towards sustainability.
Among these spas, the beach area of the four-star hotel Brisas Guardalavaca is expected to be delivered the certification next June 5.
José Walker, specialist from the delegation of the Ministry of Tourism (Mintur) in Holguín, said that according to the schedule approved in the province, work is being done to consecutively present the proposals for the beaches of Don Lino, Pesquero, Yuraguanal, Esmeralda and Baracutey.
“In parallel, the Evaluation Committee will present to the Boards of Directors of the municipalities of Rafael Freyre, Banes and Antilla the environmental recognition process, in April, as established by Resolution 305 of CITMA, to create the beach management body with the direction of the respective governments ”, he detailed.
The specialist added that the administrative framework for the implementation of the environmental recognition process of these coastlines has already been established, after the creation of an Advisory Committee chaired by the Department of Beach Management of the Cisat - Citma, the Management Bodies of the Brisas Guardalavaca sector, the spas used by Gaviota and Don Lino facilities, in operation by the Islazul Hotel Group and the evaluation and monitoring team, chaired by the Citma Delegation.
For his part, Eddy Santos, Mintur delegate in Holguín, pointed out that “the Environmental Beach Certification system is a mechanism in favor of the sustainability of tourist activity, with benefits both for the environment and society, as for tourism companies, hence the priority of the task in the sector”.
The quality of bathing water and air, noise pollution, management of liquid and solid waste and the protection of biological diversity, ecosystems and landscapes will be taken into account for the granting of environmental recognition.
