Holguín University to boost international alliances

The signing of six new international agreements strengthens one of the objectives of the 10th International Scientific Conference of the University of Holguín, which aims to boost relations with other countries.


Jenny Ruiz de la Peña, director of International Relations at the University, said that the UHo takes advantage of the opportunity provided by the event and the benefits of technologies to establish new alliances in a different scenario, mediated by virtuality.

On Monday, it was signed the first agreement with the American institution English Testing Service (ETS), which will allow closer relations while managing the possibility of establishing a future laboratory at the University of Holguín for the validation of standardized tests that evaluate the ability of understanding the language.

The Holguín University currently has three agreements with institutions in the United States including the University of Geneseo and aims to establish a new alliance with this same nation on September, for which negotiations are carried out.

Ruiz de la Peña also referred to other three agreements to be established during the event with Mexican institutions such as the Morelense College of Professionals in Physical Exercise Sciences, the International Federation of Physical Education "Together for Mexico" and the Technological University Tehuacán.

“Most of these agreements are aimed mainly at the Faculty of Physical Culture, although we will be also able to carry out other work and allow the exchange of professionals and materials, and that professionals from other countries can carry out master's and doctorate studies, as well as our researchers can visit their centers ”, she said.

The University will also establish new agreements with the University "Los Llanos" of Colombia and the National University of Juliaca, in Peru.

According to Ruiz de la Peña, this House of Higher Studies has more than a hundred agreements with countries on all continents, which has allowed the exchange of experiences of both students and professors, scholarships abroad to study masters, doctorates and postgraduate degrees in other institutions, as well as personnel from other countries who have completed undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the UHo.

She also referred to the links with the Ibero-American Postgraduate University Association based in Spain (AUIP) and with Belgian universities through the Flemish Interuniversity Council (VLIR), among others, which together with international agreements and projects such as the Erasmus + for academic mobility, bring benefits not only in the order of human resources, but also computing, among others.

The Scientific Conference’s agenda also includes a meeting with the University of Malaga for the realization of new projects that will allow providing equipment and resources to the laboratory of the Biomedical Data Processing Group, specifically for the processing of electro-oculographic data, which will enable achieve more favorable results in the studies, research and treatment of hereditary ataxias carried out along with with Cirah, the leading center in the territory for the treatment of this highly prevalent degenerative disease in the territory and other countries in the region.

Regarding the commercialization of the portfolio of academic services, she indicated that there are also results from joint work with the direction in charge of these matters at the University.

The professors who provide their services in countries such as Angola, Mozambique, Brazil and the Angolan and Mozambican students who were scholarship holders and self-financed who studied undergraduate degrees last school year and other foreigners in postgraduate studies are an example of these services.
