Doctor of Science Elena Fornet Hernández was chosen as an honorary member of the Cuban Academy of Sciences (ACC), a recognition conferred on her during a meeting at the Citma Delegation in Holguín.
The award was also granted postmortem to the recently deceased Dr.C Roberto Guillermo Rodríguez Córdova, for his scientific career and contribution in this field.
The delivery of the accrediting certificate was in charge of Dr.C Luis Velázquez Pérez, President of the ACC, who said “we want Elena to be an honorary academic, which more than encourages her work, for how she has given her life to science in Holguín and outside the province, it implies responsibility. It occurs at a time when it comes to connecting knowledge with the economy, so we have to face many challenges. The blockade continues, the country does not have great natural resources that generate wealth to live on, so our value lies in human potential”.
"Today many crises converge: economic, social, health, war, environmental, climate change and with all this we have to develop artificial intelligence, robotics and other issues in Cuba, in which the ACC is essential," said Velázquez Perez.
Alejandro Torres Gómez, Delegate of Citma in the province, explained that in honor of Córdova, the name of the beloved "professor", as he used to be known, was given to the main hall of the provincial headquarters of the institution, where it will remain the document that accredited him as an Honorary Member of the ACC, donated by the widow to Citma.
The Cuban Academy of Sciences is an official institution of the Republic of Cuba, created in 1861. It has an independent and consultative character in scientific and environmental matters.
