Holguín implements road safety measures in the face of summer stage

The Provincial Road Safety Commission in Holguín is implementing actions with a view to the 2024 summer stage. Based on the behavior of the prevention indicators in recent months, these measures are developed and executed by the organizations involved: Provincial Directorate of Transportation, State Inspection, Directorate of Traffic, School of Road Education and the Provincial Directorate of Public Health.


In statements to the press, Manuel Leyva González, secretary of the Provincial Road Safety Commission, pointed out that during the current period, there is a light decrease in two of the accident indicators: occurrence and injuries; maintaining the same number of fatalities compared to the same period of the previous year. The province reports 28 deaths, 296 accidents and 310 injuries; which represent the occurrence of two accidents daily, one person dies every five days and two people are injured each day.

Lieutenant Colonel Carlos Rodríguez Marrero, head of traffic in the province, commented among the actions to be carried out to review the drivers' files to determine if there are any unpaid contraventions or licenses with deadlines close to their expiration. Also, an agreement was reached on the schedule for transportation and vehicular circulation to the beach area from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; which will be complemented with the control to be exercised in the terminals, at the boarding points and breathalyzers in the province.

Regarding the use of moped transport by young people without a license, he assured that training actions will be carried out in educational centers with the aim to provide students with the regulatory document, while measures will be applied to citizens who circulate with speakers adapted to play music at high levels, not approved by current regulations.

In Holguín, the Provincial Road Safety Commission works to minimize accidents and thereby preserve the lives of its residents in a time of year of recreation and healthy enjoyment for the entire family.
