FAR reports on missing persons in the fire in Melones, Holguín

As a result of the fire that occurred in a war material storage facility in the community of Melones, in the Holguín municipality of Rafael Freyre, thirteen people, including officers and soldiers, remain missing, the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces reported on its Facebook profile.
Since the first moment that the explosions occurred in the early hours of this Tuesday were known, surveillance has been maintained in this place, with the participation of the highest authorities of the Party and Government in the province and the municipality, the Revolutionary Armed Forces, the Ministry of the Interior of the territory and the direction of the Civil Defense.
Among the measures adopted by the Provincial Defense Council and a commission of the FAR, the evacuation of more than 490 people living in nearby areas was carried out to preserve their integrity, while actions continue to determine the status of the personnel who initially faced the event, as well as the damage to the property.
According to the information notes issued by the armed institution, everything is under control and does not pose a danger to the community, and constant communication is maintained with the families of the missing comrades.
Joel Queipo Ruiz, president of the Provincial Defense Council, in an interview granted to journalist Raúl Rodríguez Peña of the Holguín radio system, offered statements about the unfortunate event and the measures and actions that have been carried out in monitoring the evolution of this event, as well as the exchange with population groups from the areas of Sao Nuevo, Sao Redondo and Melones until reaching the towns of Dagame and Punto Fijo to explain the measures and avoid further concerns about what happened.
He stressed that all the necessary personnel for the rescue actions are in the place and the institutions involved in decision-making to proceed with equanimity, coordination and precision in the required tasks.
For his part, Rodríguez Peña, from the scene of the events, reported to the news program De Primera Mano that no more explosions had been heard and the security of the perimeter was maintained.
Likewise, on his Facebook profile, Dr. Yudisney Pérez Viamonte, a health system worker in the municipality of Rafael Freyre, stated that all measures have been taken to protect the population and preserve life.
"Up to this moment, the people treated and evacuated do not require any emergency medical treatment, after evaluation by the medical team and psychologists. Therefore, there is no patient who requires a blood transfusion and blood donation is not required for what happened in Melones," he said.
The Minfar, for its part, pointed out that a systematic exchange with the population is maintained and our people will be informed in a timely manner of the course of actions.
