The 8th International Conference on Civil Engineering in Cuba was held this week in the Guardalavaca tourist resort, Holguín province, under the slogan "The Path of Civil Engineering on its Journey to World 4.0."
Organized by the National Union of Architects and Construction Engineers of Cuba (UNAICC), the event had the participation of 125 delegates, who focused their debates on the importance of adapting to globalization and technology.
Dr. Darío Candevar Sánchez, president of the organizing committee, highlighted among the main topics discussed the comprehensive management of seismic and environmental risks, including high winds, tsunamis and landslides.
"We analyzed the crucial role that new generations of civil engineers play in integrating a gender perspective, an area in which Cuba is a pioneer. We discussed sustainability and the use of advanced technologies such as geographic information systems, modeling software, and structural design," noted Candevar Sánchez.
The international participation, with the presence of engineer Kevin Potosni from the University of Western Ontario, Canada, and the online connection with experts from Chile, Mexico, and Venezuela, made posible the exchange of experiences aimed at consolidating strategies to address the challenges arising from technological modernization and environmental preservation.
