“The homeland must be defended”

Under the slogan “The homeland must be defended,” this year´s May Day parade will feature a heightened element of patriotism and will be a concrete and forceful action in defense of Cuba´s sovereignty, in response to the warmongering threats of the genocidal neighbor to the north.
According to Idalmis Serrano, General Secretary of the CTC in the province of Holguín, the festivities began with parades in towns and communities, plenary sessions in municipalities and trade unions, and production days at food production facilities and sanitation efforts at hospitals.
This May Day has other incentives, such as taking place in the year of the centenary of the birth of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, and the 22nd CTC Congress, whose celebration is scheduled for next June.
As is traditional on each day dedicated to the proletarian anniversary, there will be a ceremony to award entities, workers, and union leaders with outstanding careers in the production and defense of the homeland, as well as a solidarity meeting with friends from around the world who come to the province to show support and march alongside the workers.
On Friday, May First, the municipal and provincial marches will take place. The latter in its traditional setting, the Plaza de la Revolución Mayor General Calixto García Íñiguez. Starting at 7:30 in the morning, the parade will begin where 300,000 workers will march alongside their families.
The Association of Cuban Revolution Combatants, political organizations, military institutions, farmers, and youth will also march united for the defense of the homeland.
In the unions, preparations have begun, posters and banners are being made, flags are being located, and initiatives are being created to add beauty and color to the march.
Food and Fishing Industry will be the union that, among the unions, will start the march; there will be a total of 18 that will come to send a strong message of unity to the world and the determination to overcome imperialist threats.
