The program of attention to the mountainous zones advanced remarkably in the province of Holguín, and at the end of the year 2017 it shows encouraging results in several of its indicators, all of which contribute to elevate the quality of life of the people there.
In the heat of the achievements of the Turquino Plan, actions linked to the protection of flora, fauna, water and soils were consolidated, essential requirements to ensure sustainable development, in accordance with the criteria of specialists consulted on the subject.
The production of coffee, cocoa, fruit, banana, milk, pork and sawn wood, behaved above the estimates for the year, which had a positive impact on agricultural and forestry production in terms of self-sufficiency of most settlements population, and in that sense it is expected to advance much more.A necessary complement undoubtedly constitutes the services of education, health, sports, culture, work and social security, sectors that registered advances in their integral management and in fact became the benefit of the peasants.
It was significant that the infant and maternal mortality rate remained at zero, as well as that the life expectancy reached 79 years, which reflects a sustained work in the health services that reach the most remote corners of the mountainous geography. of the Holguin territory.The transportation of passengers and cargo benefited from the start-up of new equipment, while the housing fund achieved significant changes and a significant decrease in land and hut floors.
Likewise, electric service and telephony were extended to most settlements, and installations were fully revitalized in Pinares and Arroyo Seco in Mayarí, Calabaza and Naranjo Agrio in Sagua de Tánamo and Guamuta, in Cueto, actions that favor the level of life and the political-social state of the population.Holguin has five of its 14 municipalities incorporated into the Turquino Plan, which are: Moa, Sagua de Tánamo, "Frank País", Mayarí and Cueto, all of whom receive the benefits of this program of the Revolution, conceived to achieve sustainable development of the mountainous areas.
