Cattle raising in Holguín benefited with the use of solar energy

The use of solar energy to supply water to state livestock units is included among the measures promoted by the agricultural sector of the province of Holguín to achieve a better service of the mass, even in the most intense periods of drought. With this purpose, 40 solar panels equipped with pumps have been installed in the eastern territory, which allow, in a more effective and economic way, the supply of the precious liquid to some 24,000 head of cattle, referred to the ACN Abel Ráez Méndez, head of that front in the Provincial Delegation of Agriculture.
The executive stressed that the new technology, which is planned to gradually increase, allows a considerable saving of fuel taking into account that with it the draft is reduced by pipes of the liquid, especially in those places with very difficult agroclimatic conditions.
He stressed that Holguin requires the installation of more than 360 solar panels, since there are about 49 thousand 700 heads of livestock that are supplied by pipes, especially in the stages of greatest impact due to low levels of rainfall.
The positive effects of this technology are amply demonstrated in the Damián dam, in the municipality of Holguín, where since February 2016, a herd of 300 heads has been efficiently supplied and about 500 liters of oil have been saved monthly in this way.
Another good example is the livestock unit El Vapor, in the municipality of Gibara, in which water is not lacking for the more than 390 milking cows that provide about 550 liters of milk daily. /Radio Angulo
