Holguin: Construction Advancing on East-West Water Transfer

Of the six stages planned, two have been completed to date with satisfactory economic results by managing to store 317 million cubic meters of water, which has made possible to irrigate 12,800 hectares administered by Agriculture and Azcuba Sugar Company.
Among other benefits, the project has helped to prevents floods in the municipality of Mayarí.
Also, the completion of the Small Hydroelectric Power Plant of the Mayarí Dam that has generated more than 23 gigawatts / hour to the National Electric Power System, saving some 5,700 tons of fuel, while working on the construction of another small hydroelectric plant scheduled to be completed in April this year, with a generation capacity of about 1.1 megawatts.
Investments also included the purchase of and installation of new equipment in order to increase its construction capacity and boost food production and import substitution.
To strengthen the rice production and complete the primary channel that will supply these areas, as well as the semi-stationary irrigation systems in the areas with water supply system completed, will be the work priorities for 2018.
