Cuba has dedicated on social networks multiple expressions of gratitude to its national baseball team, which on Sunday ended its performance at the 5th World Baseball Classic placing among the top four.

On Twitter, the first secretary of the central committee of the party and president of the country, Miguel Diaz-Canel, congratulated the team for its performance and stressed that Cuba is proud of them.

The president pointed out in his message that in Sunday's semifinal match in Miami against the local team, the United States, the so-called Team Asere also played against hatred of the worst kind.

Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and secretary of organization of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), highlighted on the same social network the strength, passion, dedication, spirit and unity of the team.

Cuba and good Cubans hug you and will receive you in the homeland proud of you, the leader added in his tweet.

The Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) underlined the performance of the Cuban national team, among the first four of the 20 that participated in the competition.

On Sunday, in the first semifinal of the 5th World Baseball Classic, Cuba left the event with a 2-14 loss at the LoanDepot Park stadium in Miami to the favorite, host and reigning champion United States.

The Cuban team, which for the first time brings together players from the National Series, Japanese and Caribbean leagues, and major league players, finished the initial phase of this World Classic as leader of Group A, after two successive defeats in Taipei, China.

Then, in the quarterfinals, Cuba won against Australia (4-3) in Japan, and on Thursday moved to Miami as the first semifinalist.

Prior to Sunday's match, team manager Armando Johnson said that the show of support from Cuba and other parts of the world has been an incredible encouragement, and both athletes and coaches have been aware of the messages and images on social networks.
