The Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Award is an honor annually granted to persons who have significantly contributed the art of ballet and dance. The prize was created in 1953 to mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II of England.

Some personalities granted the award include Ninette de Valois, Marie Rambert, Frederick Ashton, Antony Tudor, Kenneth MacMillan, Rudolf Nureyev and The Royal Ballet.

Upon learning of the event, Carlos Acosta said “I’m so happy to receive such prize. It’s an honor to join this prestigious list of dance leaders, many of whom have inspired as I worked with them during my career.”

Real Academy executive director Luke Rittner said that the career of Carlos Acosta as dancer and now as choreographer and artistic director speaks by itself. Carlos will take an outstanding place on the list of important interpreters, directors, choreographers and professors.
