Tranquility returned to Joel Hijuelos, a Cuban residing in the United States visiting Holguín, when forces from the Ministry of the Interior returned the car, which had been stolen on the road to Gibara, where he had parked to buy some onions.

According to Joel, his uncle was in the car, which is why he did not remove the keys or secure its doors, but he went after him and at that moment the criminals occupied the car. Realizing it, his reaction was to throw himself on the hood, and in a jump of about three meters he fell on top of it and grabbed the windshield wipers in an attempt to stop them, which had no effect.

It was a bad experience that, as Joel pointed out, could have had worse consequences, since it would have caused other accidents due to the violent manner in which he left the place and the speed at which he was going.

During a long journey to the area known as " Seis columnas ", he remained in that position, even when the perpetrators did everything to get rid of him, making sudden maneuvers with the steering wheel and driving at high speed.

Lieutenant Colonel Ernesto Rodríguez Delá, first operational officer of the DTI, commented: “Upon learning of the occurrence of this event, quite grotesque, we gave ourselves the task of not sleeping until we managed to find the identity of the perpetrators, the occupation of the auto tour and the detention of these citizens.

“Together with the police, the instruction and all those who make up the investigation system, we were able to achieve that result fourteen hours after the event occurred,” the officer said.

He also pointed out that they are working hard to close ranks against acts like these, because "in a society like ours, it does not fit facts of this nature ".
