Attention to vulnerable neighborhoods and the actions taken against drought marked the achievements of the Hydraulic Resources sector in Holguín, which closed 2023 with eight thousand new clients to the aqueduct and sewage systems.
These results were known on Tuesday in the Company's annual balance meeting, where issues of social impact such as the pits cleaning and the mechanized sanitation of dams, rivers and streams were also analyzed.
Juan Mario Echavarría Hernández, territorial delegate of the sector, told ACN that more than five kilometers of pipelines were built in the prioritized population communities, while international collaboration projects made possible the installation of solar pumps to guarantee greater accessibility to the service.
He highlighted that in the neighborhoods, simplified sewage is implemented as a variant, which allows the evacuation of solid waste from homes and whose implementation requires few resources, an experience gradually extended in the territory.
He added that 58 solar pumping stations also provide services to these communities mainly in isolated and difficult-to-access areas, one of the social programs prioritized by the Cuban Revolution, despite the lack of equipment and spare parts.
The search for new sources of supply for the population and the drilling of wells in municipalities such as Cueto, Urbano Noris and Cacocum also continue to mitigate the impact of the intense drought.
Javier Toledo, vice president of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources, pointed out the optimal use of the State budget and the development of infrastructure, based on the use of alternatives aimed at improving this service.
