The study of more than seven thousand blocks is part of the contribution of the province of Holguín to the Land Registry of the National Institute of Territorial Planning and Urban Planning (Inotu), dedicated to describing the conditions of real estate in Cuba.

This summary allows us to determine the main characteristics of the buildings, necessary to prepare territorial planning plans, hazard, vulnerability and risk studies and the strategy to confront climate change.

César Patterson Rodríguez, territorial delegate of the sector, told ACN that more than 44 urban settlements have been evaluated, taking into account aspects such as the risks of rising sea levels, saline intrusion and other effects of global warming.

He added that the province already has software for processing this data, as part of the computerization programs of society in the largest of the Antilles, while more than 800 hectares have been examined in 25 rural communities, which changed their category to urban.

He highlighted that the inventory of existing social services was prepared, where the possibility of building more than 1,500 new grandparents' homes, sports centers and spaces dedicated to healthy recreation was determined, evaluating land use policies.

More than two thousand population settlements are referenced in the cadastre so far, taking into account vulnerable neighborhoods and special tourism development zones, Patterson noted.

Inotu, formerly the National Institute of Physical Planning, was founded on May 19, 1960, with the objective of organizing and executing the laws related to this section in the country.

During 2023, more than 22 thousand procedures and services were carried out in Holguín, while the confrontation with illegalities in housing construction continues, one of the organization's priorities.
