At the headquarters of the Eastern Army General Staff, the people of Holguín paid posthumous tribute to Army Corps General Ramón Espinosa Martín, first vice minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, who died unexpectedly on September 24.
At 9 in the morning this Tuesday, began the tribute attended by pioneers, students, young people, men and women of this eastern territory, where the also member of the Political Bureau Espinosa Martín, Hero of the Republic of Cuba and of Labor left his legacy, because for 27 years he commanded the "Mr. Eastern Army", a description given by Army General Raúl Castro to the military command that was always at the forefront of strategic plans for the economic development of the territory and the country.
More than one of the leaders at the head of this armed institution, General Espinosa is remembered by many as just another Holguín native, as he always felt, and expressed this on repeated occasions to his constituents in the municipality of Holguín, where he was a Deputy to the Cuban Parliament.
Chaired by the members of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba Major General Eugenio Rabilero Aguilera, head of the Eastern Army and Joel Queipo Ruiz, first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Party in Holguín, this day passed sad and solemn, because it was the last goodbye of hundreds of compatriots to a great man, boss, friend, companion and brother of many battles, always thinking about saving the Revolution and Socialism.
“Many could talk about his greatness. He knew this Army down to the smallest detail. He was a man of an impeccable reputation, respected, admired for his experience, honesty, knowledge, virtuosity. From him I learned discipline, consecration, camaraderie, personal and professional friendship,” said the first non-commissioned officer Jorge Mantecón Velasco, the driver who grew up at his side for almost four decades, and who today feels the departure of the consecrated revolutionary to eternity.
Until the afternoon of this October 1st, hundreds of combatants, members of the Armed Forces, students from the Camilo Cienfuegos Military School and educational institutions in the area, leaders of the Party and Government of the Holguín municipalities, the Ministry of the Interior and a representation of political and mass organizations, the Association of Combatants and civilian Defense workers came to say their last goodbye to General Espinosa.
