The University of Holguín graduated more than 1,520 new professionals in a ceremony held at the Bariay cultural complex, with authorities, families, and faculty in attendance.

The event marked the end of another training cycle and highlighted the graduates’ effort despite difficult circumstances.

The ceremony was dedicated to the centenary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and the 50th anniversary of the Ministry of Higher Education. It recognized the best graduates by faculty and in areas such as teaching, research, defense, culture, sports, and student assistant work, and also awarded the Integral Vanguard and Outstanding distinctions.

Among the honorees were Blanca Isabel Pérez Ricardo, named the best part-time graduate, and Dargis Milán Albear, the most outstanding graduate of the 2022-2026 class. The event also awarded the Scientific Merit Prize to 93 graduates and the Gold Degree to 234 students.

The text stresses that achieving these results in the midst of a crisis, post-pandemic challenges, and other limitations required reorganizing academic processes and relying on digital tools to continue instruction. For that reason, the achievement carries special value for these young professionals.

Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Dargis thanked their families and professors for their support and encouraged her classmates to pursue their dreams and contribute to the country with their talent. Rector Aniuska Ortiz Pérez also congratulated the graduates and praised their growth, creativity, and human values.

The ceremony also included 24 students from the University of Oriente and the University of Information Sciences, and brought together student leaders, university officials, and employers. Over more than five decades, the University of Holguín has graduated more than 54,000 students across different study modalities.
