The Ministry of the Interior (Minint), along with administrative authorities, political and social organizations, and inspection bodies, joined efforts to address the scourges that undermine the functioning of society during the National Exercise for the Prevention and Confrontation of Crime, illegalities, social indiscipline, drug trafficking and abusive commercial practices, conducted from March 24 to 29 in the province of Holguín.

At the meeting chaired by Joel Queipo Ruiz, First Secretary of the Party in Holguín, and Manuel Hernández Aguilera, Governor, and attended by representatives of agencies, institutions and entities, it was informed that a decrease in crime rates was reported in most priority areas compared to the previous exercise in December. The highest incidences are concentrated on 8th and 13th Streets in the Sanfield neighborhood and around the Las Baleares bus terminal in the provincial capital.

More than one hundred entities in the business sector and budgeted units were audited, which revealed irregularities related to the absence of a legal advisor's opinion, non-payment of leased premises, and full payments for unfinished construction projects, among others.

On the otjher hand, more than one thousand institutions updated their crime plans, with a focus on sectors like Commerce, Food Industry, Agriculture, Water Resources, Health, and Education.

Other actions were aimed at combating abusive prices with an increase in forced sales and promoting digital payment methods.

Likewise, preventive work was carried out in the communities with monitored individuals serving probationary sentences or with prior incidents. Efforts also included protecting warehouses, engaging youth disconnected from work or study, as well as warning citizens prone to committing crimes.

“There is a number of identified problems that require solutions. This exercise demonstrates the strength of unity as key factor for maintaining discipline, order and control for the benefit of the population,” Queipo Ruiz said.
