Mayarí: large-scale fire in a mountainous area

Joint forces of the Forest Ranger Corps and the Mayarí Agroforestry Company are fighting a large-scale fire that has caused severe damage in the El Prado mountain area.
The abundance of organic plant material and the impact of the drought favor the advance of the fire, which have already affected more than a thousand hectares of forest.
The complexities of the terrain make access to the area difficult and limit the participation of the forces; Despite this, equipped brigades are operating in the area of the incident, with the help of mechanized teams and helicopters from the Revolutionary Air Force.
Likewise, the collaboration of other municipalities has been made present, such as Sagua de Tánamo with its Forestry force, whose rangers Iván Leyva Peña and Iván Sedano Romero clean and give “counterfire” in the trail areas.
