AHS and British Council Announce Edesio Alejandro Scholarship

The Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) and the British Council in Cuba are launching, for the first time, the Edesio Alejandro Scholarship (1958–2025) for emerging Cuban DJs, as part of their commitment to fostering new artistic expressions and cultural exchange.
The initiative aims to support emerging talent in Cuba’s electroacoustic music and sound production scene, offering a key platform for the professional development of young artists.
All Cuban residents aged 16 to 35 may apply, whether or not they are AHS members. Applicants must submit a DJ mix or original production lasting 15–30 minutes, which can be sent to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., delivered in person at the Pabellón Cuba (AHS national headquarters in Vedado, Havana), or shared via YouTube links. Along with the sample, they must provide their full personal details and a brief CV.
The call specifies that the use of artificial intelligence is not permitted at any stage of the creative process. The main prize consists of a professional DJ console/controller, a certificate of achievement, and the possibility of producing promotional material with the backing of AHS and the British Council. If the winner is not an AHS member but wishes to join, their admission will be fast-tracked.
The results will be promoted in coordination with Radio Taíno. The application period remains open until October 20, 2026; from that date, a jury of distinguished professionals will evaluate the submissions and select the finalists.
Finalists must present their work live on November 7–8 at the Pabellón Cuba, as part of the Juan Blanco National Electronic Music Day, organized for the first time by AHS and the British Council. The event will provide accommodation for finalists residing outside Havana.
During these sessions, judges will assess technique, creativity, and audience connection in the projects presented. The event also serves as a tribute to Juan Blanco (1919–2008), creator of Cuba’s Electroacoustic Music Studio, the first of its kind in Latin America. (Source: ACN)
