The Gibara International Poor Film Festival concluded this Saturday with the presentation of the Lucia Award for Best Fiction Work to “Natural Phenomena”, a feature film directed by Marcos Diaz Sosa, which stands out for the sensitive and metaphorical value of the story, combined with an excellent direction and acting performance.
Jacqueline Arenal, president of the fiction jury, and Verónica Lynn, winner of this year's Lucía de Honor Award, presented the most important award to a collaborative film between the countries of Cuba, Argentina and France, which exposes the conformism and self-pity of the characters.
The winner in the category of Best Animated or Experimental Work was “Yo voy conmigo”, by Spanish director Chelo Loureiro, which transmits a universal message with the aesthetic and narrative resources of children's cinema. The video art “Cedro Libanés” and the animation “40 grados a la sombra” also received a mention.
The jury in the Best Documentary category decided to award the Lucía Prize to "Hidden Lake, Sovereignty at Stake,", directed by Camilo Gómez Montero, a documentary that makes visible the little known history of struggle in the present of the Argentine Patagonia. Likewise, three works in the competition received a mention for their aesthetic proposal.
The Humberto Solás Award for Films in Progress went to the feature documentaries “Nunca más abril” and “La gente de la ruta”, which is of great importance as it supports productions in progress.
"Matagigantes" by Osmanys Sánchez Arañó and Martha Iris Sánchez Bárcena and "Eres hijo de alguien" by Franks Daniel Linares García were the winners of the Factoría de Cine Pobre (You Are Someone's Son) award, a project that financially supports audiovisual producers in the provinces of the eastern region of the country.
Sergio Benvenuto Solás, President of the event, expressed his gratitude to all those who were part of this event, especially to Gibara, for the tenacity with which they defended the festival.
