Holguin Marks its 299 Anniversary

The people of Holguin celebrated this April 4th at the top of the iconic Loma de la Cruz the 474 years of the founding of the Hato de Holguín and 299 years of the creation of the town of the same name.
At the anniversary gala, attended by Ernesto Santiesteban Velazquez, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in Holguin and Julio Cesar Estupiñan Rodriguez, president of the Provincial Assembly of People’s Power, included the cultural traditions that characterize the region.

The lyrical singing, the love for organ music, the danzon, the trova, among others, were performed by local artists and companies such as soloists of the Rodrigo Prats Lyric Theater, the Duo Savarez, the Insular Quartet, the Codanza Company, the Project of Oral Narration Words to the Wind and the troubadour Fernando Cabreja.
Ricardo Suarez Martinez, president of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power, recalled in his speech the historical evolution of the municipality with the foundation of the Hato in 1545 and the creation of the town in 1720, a fact that unified the inhabitants into a single population and marked the birth of Holguin identity.

Suarez Martinez made the official launching of the campaign "The city we want" for the 300 years of the creation of the town of Holguin to be held on April 4, 2020 and that includes, in addition to constructive actions, the role of the people Holguin to have a more beautiful, cultured, clean, modern and universal city.
The celebration concluded with the raising of the Holguin flag and the interpretation of the local anthem.
