Holguín athletes awarded at the 2022 Awards Gala

The best exponents of Holguín sport in 2022 were awarded on Wednesday in ceremony held at the theater of the Mariana Grajales Faculty of Medical Sciences in this eastern Cuban city.
The Olympic sports shooting champion Leuris Pupo received the award for the most outstanding athlete in individual disciplines, an award also granted to the cyclist Daimelín Pérez, while Claudia Lores (Baseball 5) and Luis Raúl Domínguez (Softball) were awarded in collective sports.
With the bronze medal in the National Championship and two players in the Cuban pre-selection, the Baseball 5 team from Holguin was the most relevant in the province this year. Baseball was the collective sport with the best performance and artistic gymnastics stood out in individual sports.
The gala included the participation of the Wushu and Qigon de la Salud School in Holguín, a group that recently reached first place in the Taijiquan online competition, in which 345 schools from 16 countries participated.
As a sample of the development that the sport for people with disabilities has reached, the world runner-up in parajudo, Sheyla Hernández Estupiñán, best athlete in this category in Cuba and Holguín, and Yanelis Silva Zamora (table paratennis), monarch in the Tango Cup of Argentina and Ulícer Aguilera Cruz, holder of the Javelin Grand Prix of Mexico and the Cali Open, Colombia, were also recognized.
