The National Neonatology Workshop on the management of neonatal hemodynamics was held this week at the Vladimir Ilich Lenin University Hospital of Holguín, with the aim to share knowledge on managing neonatal hemodynamics, as part of the Maternal and Child Care Program (PAMI) of the Ministry of Public Health.
Dr. Catherine Chibás Pérez, head of the Maternal and Child Health Department of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), highlighted the importance of these exchanges for improving neonatal care, especially in the context of declining birth rates and an aging population in Cuba.
The workshop included keynote lectures and practical training in hemodynamics, with integrative debates among participants.
Dr. Ana Nastia Tamayo Ortiz, head of the Neonatology service at the "Lenin" hospital, emphasized the utility of neonatal hemodynamics using ultrasound equipment, which was initiated in Holguín in 2022.
This province has been a pioneer in establishing hemodynamics for high-risk newborns, allowing specialists to anticipate potential complications in premature or growth-restricted infants.
Holguín has consolidated its position as a reference point for maternal and child care in Cuba, thanks to its outstanding performance in indicators such as infant mortality, which has reached levels comparable to developed countries.
In addition, the province has hosted important scientific events related to neonatal and pediatric care, highlighting its commitment to continuous improvement in child health.
